Agriculture & Kuttanad
Like many settlements in central Kerala, development was linked to waterways, agriculture and temple-centred social life. Paddy cultivation and coconut farming remained the main economy for generations.
🛕 Pandavarkavu Devi Temple - Pride of Muthukulam
Pandavarkavu Devi Temple is one of the oldest and most important temples in erstwhile Travancore and the major attraction of Muthukulam. According to legend, Kunti Devi, Mother of the Pandavas, installed Goddess Durga here. The five Pandavas installed Vishnu idols at Thrichitat, Thiruppuliyoor, Thiruvaranmula, Thiruvanvandoor and Thrikkodithanam. Kunti made an idol with clay and offered 'Kadalipazham' banana. Even today, devotees offer Kadalipazham to the Goddess.
The temple is part of the Swadesh Darshan pilgrim tourism circuit connecting the Pandava Temples. The temple pond (Pandavar Kulam) and its serene surroundings are famous.

The establishment and strengthening of the Muthukulam Block Panchayat further contributed to coordinated development in the region.
